I was born 1995 with a disability called Spinal bifida and according to what I still hear today, only a small percentage of babies born with Spinal bifida live and I was one of those babies that the doctors even said to my parents, it is better for ME TO die because if I live, I won’t be able to do anything for myself, and I won’t have the opportunity to speak/hear or learn.
Well, my parents, gave me back to the Lord just after birth. They knew that there was a reason for my disability. I was the first one in our family to be born with a disability. My parents just knew that without God they will not know how to raise a disabled baby. I am here today because I had a purpose.
My mom refused to listen to any negative reports from doctors, support groups and to read anything about spina bifida because it placed a bondage on my live.
The only people that she allowed to visit was their cell group and pastor who prayed life over me and prayed the blood of Jesus on all negative reports.
When I was 3 months old my mom could not find a day mother for me. 20 years ago ,no one was willing to take a disabled baby in to look after. Through a friend/social worker she found a lady that was willing to look after me during the day.
Then I turned 3 years old, again the struggle to find a crèche for me. A crèche nearby us said that they will help out for 3 months, if it does not work my mom had to look for someplace else.
I was there for 3 years, I started to talk at 3 and a year later the crèche also started to take more disabled kids in to look after during the day
I could crawl. My mom called it I bunny hop and not crawl.
At the age of 6, I was ready to go to school. The only place that would accept me was a disabled school in Johannesburg South Africa. I remember the psychologist at the school told my mom when I was in Grade 2 that I will never be able to learn or finish school. She must take me out of school and give up on the dream that I’ll be normal and give me whatever I wanted to do.
My parents kept on fighting for me and kept the dream and the Word alive that was given to me at the age of 5 years old. The word was that I will go into full time ministry.
I was teased and was forced to do stuff that, at that time, was told to me in force to do it for 5 years, but I kept on doing what the darkness hated, even though I wasn’t a Born again Christian at that time. I kept on surviving yet another day, and I kept on passing one grade to another proving that he was a liar and to make matters worse for him, I started walking with crutches at the age of 7.
“He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”- The Great I Am
But in the same time, because I didn’t know The Great I Am as my personal Savior, and saw teasing as the highest form of rejection at my school, I thought about committing suicide a few times. At the age of 12 yr I remember challenging the Father as a cry out for help. I remember saying to Him that, if He really is real, He will let me listen to a guest speaker that really understood my brokenness and the position that I found myself in other wise I’ll commit suicide by Jumping in front of a bus.
Today, I can say that God heard my cry. The guest speaker that I had the honour of listening to was Dr. Rodney Seale (teen Psychologist) . He said one line that made finally felt like God empowered me to go on with life. He Said: “You are the best of the best of the best”.
But God didn’t leave me there. Dr Rodney Sealed sponsored me to go on one of His camps and there I decided to give my life to The Great I am.
About on the Age of 13yr. I had scoliosis (Bent back). My back was 52 degrees out of proportion in other words, my back was so skew that they had to take 3 x-rays just to get the idea of what my back looked like and if that doesn’t sound bad, if my back had to go any more, it would puncture my lungs and I would die.
Now for any back doctor, they would’ve taken the risk to operate, but because I had a shunt in my body that they had to work around with. Most doctors refused.
We finally found 3 doctors in Pretoria. From the research that was done, they are three of the best doctors in their field in South Africa. They even teach other doctors to work with people with spinal bifida, they even fixed unsuccessful operations on people that struggled even more than before the operation.
Once again, the doctors told my parents that if they operated, there would be a 50 percent chance that I’ll be dying on the table, and if I live. The chances of me walking again and doing physical sports will not be there. Remember the prophecy that I shared about when i was 5 years old. I held on to that, and I knew that God won’t go back on His Word and I trusted Him completely, so I knew that I’ll live. After the doctors negative report, my parents decided to ask the pastors that we know, to pray for me. After all James said: “Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.” Still in my journey of the operation, I heard a few weeks later there was a healing revival in the churches after they prayed for me.
One early morning, the day just before my operation, I went to Hospital, because the doctors told my parents that they want to see us before they operate. I remember my parents had to fill in forms by the receptionist, and the receptionist told my parents that they must put R10 000 on the table before they will carry on with the operation. My parents didn’t have that class of money near them and all the banks were closed. I can’t remember what was said between my parents and the receptionist, but I remember going to the hospital bed, and, not even an hour later, my parents got an sms from a family member saying that, they felt they need to give R10 000 for the operation. It was exactly what we needed, and saw The Fathers Hands work again in my live. Well, as you can see and hear, I didn’t die on the table, 4 months after the operation, I decided to do karate to start getting fit. I did it with my back brace on. 8 months after my operation I could take my brace off and 3 months after that, I decided to challenge my body even harder. I decided to do knockdown fighting in karate. I was given the cup for most inspiring person, because I was the only person in the wheelchair that did karate in the studio and above that, I did something that everyone said I shouldn’t and couldn't do. I fought.
That’s not all that I did with my braces on.
In Gr 8 I did my initiation in a normal school, just like any other normal kid. I even remember being challenged to go a certain distance with my chair on the schools rugby field, and that was tough...to read more please click on the button below
